North Carolina Cancer Hospital - UNC Health Care
Today I spoke with the Director of Behavioral Health at a major New England academic medical center (AMC).  I literally cold-emailed him on Friday to see if he had fifteen minutes to discuss one of the AMC’s recent initiatives for a group project I am doing on mental health managed initiatives. He got back to immediately, and we talked for almost 45 minutes about health reform.
I’m amazed at how much easier it is to connect with someone when you are in academia (just a humble grad student, here) versus when you are a consultant. That’s not to say I don’t miss my old job…I do. And that’s not to say I love being in school because there are days I really hate knowing less than those who have been working in the field their entire career. But I am learning fast, and I am so hungry to improve our system, as daunting (and naive) as that seems.
“Stay hungry. Stay foolish.”
